Igor Shafarevich turns 90 on 3 June this year. His contribution to algebra, number theory and algebraic geometry has changed the way we perceive these disciplines. Shafarevich is also credited for creating a world-famous school active in these and bordering areas.

An international conference in honour of Igor Shafarevich's anniversary is organized by the members of the Department of Algebra and Number Theory and Department of Algebraic Geometry of the Steklov Mathematical Institute.
